INTERNATIONALEMARITIMEORGANIZATION4 ALBERT EMBANKMENTLONDON SE1 7SRTelephone:+44(0)2077357611Fax:+44(0)2075873210MSC.1/Circ.1361/Rev.128 April 2022REVISED RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE SAFE USE OF PESTICIDES IN SHIPSAPPLICABLE TO THE FUMIGATION OF CARGO TRANSPORT UNITSThe Maritime Safety Committee,at its eighty-fourth session(7 to 16 May 2008).approved the Recommendations on the safe use of pesticides in ships applicable to thefumigation of cargo transport units (MSC.1/Circ.1265),superseding MSC/Circ.612,asamended by MSC/Circ.689 and MSC/Circ.746,with regard to the fumigation of cargo transportunits,proposed by the Sub-Committee on Dangerous Goods,Solid Cargoes and Containersat its twelfth session.The Committee,at its eighty-seventh session(12 to 21 May 2010),having consideredthe proposal by the Sub-Committee on Dangerous Goods,Solid Cargoes and Containers,atits fourteenth session,with regard to the amendments to the IMDG Code which had beenadopted at that session,approved Revised recommendations on the safe use of pesticides inships applicable to the fumigation of cargo transport units(MSC.1/Circ.1361),which apply tothe carriage of packaged dangerous goods in pursuance of the requirements of SOLASregulation V1/4 and the relevant provisions of the IMDG Code.The Committee,at its 105th session(20 to 29 April 2022),approved amendments toMSC.1/Circ.1361,as prepared by the Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containersat its seventh session,resulting from the amendments(41-22)to the IMDG Code,as adoptedby resolution MSC.501(105).The amended Revised recommendations are set out in theannex.4The Committee agreed that the Revised recommendations should not apply to thecamiage of fresh food produced under controlled atmosphere5Member Governments are invited to bring the Revised recommendations to theattention of competent authorities,mariners,fumigators,fumigant and pesticide manufacturersand others concemed,taking into account the voluntary application date of 1 January 2023 ofamendments (41-22)to the IMDG Code,pending their envisaged entry into forceon 1 January 2024.6The present circular supersedes MSC.1/Circ.1361.I:MSC1MSC.1-Circ.1361-Rev.1.docxMEW TECHNOLOGIESGREENERSHIPPING
