INTERNATIONALEMARITIMEORGANIZATION4 ALBERT EMBANKMENTLONDON SE1 7SRTelephone:+44(0)2077357611Fax:+44(0)2075873210MSC.1/Circ.1614/Rev.15 December 2022REVISED INTERIM GUIDELINES ON LIFE-SAVING APPLIANCES ANDARRANGEMENTS FOR SHIPS OPERATING IN POLAR WATERS1The Maritime Safety Committee,at its 101st session(5 to 14 June 2019),havingconsidered a proposal by the Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment,at itssixth session,and recognizing the importance of life-saving appliances and amangements forships operating in polar waters,with a view to providing interim guidance outlining possiblemeans of mitigating hazards in order to comply with section 8.3 of part I-A of the InternationalCode for Ships Operating in Polar Waters (Polar Code),approved the Interim guidelines onlife-saving appliances and arrangements for ships operating in polar waters(MSC.1/Circ.1614).2The Maritime Safety Committee,at its 106th session (2 to 11 November 2022),approved amendments with respect to the new provisions concerning the methodology forthe calculation of the maximum time of rescue.Member States are invited to bring the annexed Revised Interim Guidelines to theattention of ship designers,shipyards,shipowners,ship managers,ship operators and otherorganizations or persons responsible for life-saving appliances and arrangements for shipsoperating in polar waters.4 Member States are also invited to bring the annexed Revised Interim Guidelines tothe attention of shipmasters,ships'officers and crew and all other parties concerned.The Committee agreed to keep the Revised Interim Guidelines under review,takinginto account operational experience gained with their application.6This circular supersedes MSC.1/Circ.1614.I:CIRCMSC1MSC.1-CIRC.1614-REV.1.docxNEW TECHNOLOGIESGREENERSHIPPING
