INTERNATIONALEMARITIMEORGANIZATION4 ALBERT EMBANKMENTLONDON SE1 7SRTelephone:+44(0)2077357611Fax:+44(0)2075873210MSC.1/Circ.16539May2022UNIFIED INTERPRETATION REGARDING TIMBER DECK CARGOIN THE CONTEXT OF DAMAGE STABILITY REQUIREMENTS1The Maritime Safety Committee,at its 105th session (20 to 29 April 2022),havingnoted that since the dissemination of IACS Unified interpretation regarding timber deck cargoin the context of damage stability requirements (MSC/Circ.998)by MSC 74 in July 2001,IACShad reviewed its Unified Interpretation Ul SC161,taking into account the SOLAS amendmentsadopted since the issue of MSC/Circ.998,as well as the revocation of the 1991 Timber Code(resolution A.715(17))by the Code of safe practice for ships carrying timber deck cargoes,2011 (2011 TDC Code)(resolution A1048(27)),and agreed to the updated Unifiedinterpretation regarding timber deck cargo in the context of damage stability requirements,setout in the annex,as prepared by the Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Construction,at itseighth session(17 to 21 January 2022).Member States are recommended to apply the Unified Interpretation,as set out in theannex,when implementing SOLAS regulation ll-1/5-1 and to bring said Unified Interpretationto the attention of all parties concerned.3This circular supersedes MSC/Circ.998.去去I:CIRCMSC1MSC.1-Circ 1653.docxGREENERSHIPPING
