CCSTechnical Information(2017)Technical Information No.54 Total No.302Jul.31,2017(Total 2 pages)To:relevant departments of CCS Headquarters,CCS surveyors,plan approval centers,relevantship owners,shipyards and designersNotice on Application of SOLAS Regulation Il-1 45.11(MSC.1-Circ.1557)Issued by IMOThe Maritime Safety Committee of International Maritime Organization(IMO),at itsninety-seventh session (21 to 25 November 2016),issued MSC.1/Circ.1557.clarifying relevant provisions for hazardous area classification in respect of selectionof electrical equipment,cables and wiring and positioning of openings and air intakes.Where the prescriptive requirements within SOLAS and related Codes (IBC and IGCCodes)and the standards published by the International Electrotechnical Commission(IEC),such as,but not limited to,IEC 60092-502,are not aligned,the prescriptiverequirements in SOLAS and other relevant IMO instruments should take precedenceand be applied.This circular lists the differences of SOLAS Convention,relatedCodes and IEC 60092-502 in detail in the form of Appendix.Member States areinvited to pay attention to the circular and use the annexed guidance when applyingSOLAS regulation II-1/45.11 to ships constructed on or after 1 January 2017.Annex:MSC.1/Circ.1557 Hazardous Area Classification (Application of SOLASRegulation II-1/45.11)
