CCSTechnical Information(2021)Technical Information No.29 Total No.535Jul.16,2021(Total 2 pages+Annex)To:Relevant shipowners,ship management companies,shipyards and designers,productmanufacturer,related departments of the Headquarters of CCS,the Society's surveyors,Plan Approval CentersNotice on MSC.1/Circ.1599/Rev.1--Revised Interim Guidelines onthe Application of High Manganese Austenitic Steel for CryogenicService Issued by IMO1.Background1.1 The Maritime Safety Committee,at its ninety-sixth session(11 to 20 May 2016),agreedto the need to ensure that cargo and fuel tanks of LNG carriers and LNG-fuelled ships weresafe,and hence tasked the Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers withaddressing the matter by developing amendments to the IGC and IGF Codes in order toinclude high manganese austenitic steel for cryogenic service.The Maritime SafetyCommittee,at its 100th session (3 to 7 December 2018)approved the Interim guidelines onthe application of high manganese austenitic steel for cryogenic service(MSC.1/Circ.1599).1.2 The Maritime Safety Committee,at its 102nd session(4 to 11 November 2020),approvedthe Revised Interim Guidelines (MSC.1/Circ.1599/Rev.1).2.Technical points2.1 The range of steel thickness is adjusted from 6mm-30mm to 6mm-40mm inMSC.1/Circ.1599/Rev.1.MSC.1/Circ.1599/Rev.I is provided in the annex.This technical notice is made public
