CCSTechnical Information(2021)Technical Information No.24 Total No.530Jul.08,2021(Total 2 pages+Annexes)To:Relevant shipowners,ship management companies,shipyards and designers,productmanufacturer,related departments of the Headquarters of CCS,the Society's surveyors,Plan Approval CentersTechnical Notice on MEPC.324(75)and MEPC.1/Circ.889Issued by IMO1.BackgroundAmendments to MARPOL Annex VI(MEPC.324(75))concerning procedures forsampling and verification of the sulphur content of fuel oil and the Energy EfficiencyDesign Index(EEDI),were adopted at the 75th session of the Marine EnvironmentalProtection Committee(MEPC 75)of the International Maritime Organization(IMO)inNovember 2020.The resolution shall be deemed to have been accepted on 1 October 2021unless prior to that date,not less than one third of the Parties or Parties thecombined merchant fleets of which constitute not less than 50%of the gross tonnageof the world's merchant fleet,have communicated to the Organization theirobjection to the amendments.The amendments shall enter into force on 1 April2022 upon their acceptance in accordance with the above.In addition,MEPC 75 approved the 2020 Guidelines for on board sampling offuel oil intended to be used or carried for use on board a ship (MEPC.1/Circ.889),which stipulates the unified method for the sampling,from tanks,of liquid fuel oilintended to be used or carried for use on board a ship.2.Main content of MEPC.324(75)and MEPC.1/Circ.8892.1 The main contents of the amendment include:
