CCSTechnical Information(2018)Technical Information No.9 Total No.335Mar12,2018(Total 3 pages)To:relevant departments of CCS Headquarters,CCS surveyors,plan approval centers,relevant ship owners,shipyards,designers and shipping management companiesTechnical Notice on MSC.428(98)-Maritime Cyber RiskManagement In Safety Management Systems Issued by IMOIn order to raise awareness on cyber risk threats and vulnerabilities to support safeand secure shipping,which is operationally resilient to cyber risks,the MaritimeSafety Committee of International Maritime Organization(IMO),at its ninety-eighthsession,approved the maritime cyber risk management in safety managementsystems(MSC.428.(98)).Tanking into account the objectives of the ISM Code,this resolution:1.Affirms that an approved safety management system should take into accountcyber risk management in accordance with the objectives and functionalrequirements of the ISM Code;2.Encourages Administrations to ensure that cyber risks are appropriately addressedin safety management systems no later than the first annual verification of thecompany's Document of Compliance after 1 January 2021;3.Acknowledges the necessary precautions that could be needed to preserve theconfidentiality of certain aspects of cyber risk management;All stakeholders are invited to bring this resolution to the attention.This Notice is made public on CCS website(www.ccs.org.cn),and is to be distributed
