CCSTechnical Information(2020)Technical Information No.55 Total No.489Aug.28,2020(Total 2 pages+Annex)To:Relevant shipowners,ship management companies,shipyards and designers,productmanufacturer,related departments of the Headquarters of CCS,the Society's surveyors,Plan Approval CentersTechnical notice on new performance standards for float-freeemergency position-indicating radio beacons(EPIRBs)operating on406 MHz (MSC.471(101))issued by IMO1.BackgroundThe Maritime Safety Committee of International Maritime Organization (IMO),at its101st session in 14 June 2019,adopted new performance standards for float-freeemergency position-indicating radio beacons(EPIRBs)operating on 406 MHz bymeans of Resolution MSC.471(101)According to the resolution MSC.471(101),EPIRBs installed on or after 1 July 2022should conform to performance standards and type-approval standards not inferior tothose specified in the annex to this resolution;EPIRBs installed before 1 July 2022should conform to performance standards not inferior to those specified in the annexto resolution A.810(19),as amended by resolutions MSC.56(66)and MSC.120(74),and type-approval standards not inferior to those specified in resolution A.696(17).2.Main contents2.1 The new requirement is that EPIRB should be provided with a GNSS receiver forposition fixes,and supplement the relevant requirements of GNSS receiver positionreporting.
