ISEC Course SyllabusCourse Title:Academic Writing in EnglishProgram of The Students:Electronic Information Science and TechnologyCourse Credit:181000190Total Contact Hours:48 hours (12 weeks)Pre-Requisite:NoneCourse Description:The course aims to strengthen students'writing skills to prepare students foracademic work in English.Beginning with a review of the essay,students choosea topic appropriate for an academic paper,formulate either an expository orpersuasive thesis,research outside sources to support their main points,integrate that research into their own original writing,and format their researchpaper according to APA (American Psychological Association)guidelines.Theyconclude their study with an oral presentation of their research,a commonfollow-up assignment in subject-matter university classrooms as well.Moreover,the course covers that students investigate issues of academic honesty,and learnhow to incorporate other's research,ideas,and writing into an original paper oftheir own in accordance with guidelines from English academic institutions.Inaddition,students explore issues related to academic research such as judgingthe reliability of sources,identifying opinion and bias,and organizing andpresenting ideas logically and persuasively.Throughout the course,students receive support and guidance inorganization,language,and academic conventions.Both the essay and researchpaper are developed and written in stages,so students are never overwhelmed,but guided through the process to complete competent work of which they can beproud.Course Learning Outcomes:1.LO1:Identify concepts and principles on writing research papers in English.2.LO2:Write an English research paper on one subject specified by teacher orneeded in working place,with standard format and strong argumentation.3.LO3:Communicate and write logically in English.Note:Each LOs should be defined to focus on skills,abilities that can be applied in the practicefor the professional development and working context.The LOs should NOT be the contents ofteaching and learningMapping of Assessment Event and LOs(Tick the LOs that can be evaluated by the particular assessment events)Assessment Event(AE)PercentageRubricsL01L02L03
