INTERNATIONALEMARITIMEORGANIZATION4 ALBERT EMBANKMENTLONDON SE1 7SRTelephone:+44(0)2077357611Fax:+44(0)2075873210MEPC.1/Circ.738/Add.110 August 2011INFORMATION ON AN APPROVED METHOD UNDER MARPOL ANNEX VICommunication received from the Administration of DenmarkA communication was received from the Administration of Denmark concerningcertification of an approved method for marine diesel engine MAN B&W S70MC.The detailswere annexed to MEPC/Circ.738 dated 19 October 2010.2The Marine Environment Protection Committee,at its sixty-second session,(11to 15 July 2011),noted that the notifiers of approved methods under regulations 13.7.1and 13.7.2 of MARPOL Annex VI,disseminated by MEPC.1/Circ.738 and MEPC.1/Circ.743,agreed to provide additional guidance and information,as necessary,to identify engineswhich shall comply.Based on the above agreement,the Administration of Denmark has providedadditional information on which engines are covered by the Approved Method.Inaccordance with the provisions of regulation 13.7.1 of MARPOL Annex VI,a copy of theinformation,set out in annex,is circulated to Parties to MARPOL Annex VI and MemberStates of the Organization for infomation and appropriate action.4It should be noted that,for marine diesel engines with a power output of morethan 5,000 kW and a per cylinder displacement at or above 90 litres installed on a shipconstructed on or after 1 January 1990 but prior to 1 January 2000,installation of anapproved method is required if the approved method for that engine has been certifiedby an Administration of a Party,or alternatively,certification as provided for underregulation 13.7.1.2 of MARPOL Annex VI.As the Administration of Denmark notified the certification of the approved methodfor engines specified in the annex to the previous circular on 5 October 2010,installation ofthe method for such engines will be mandatory no later than the first renewal survey for theInternational Air Pollution Prevention Certificate,which occurs on or after 6 October 2011,subject to commercial availability.6Member Governments are invited to bring this circular to the attention of theirAdministrations,relevant shipping organizations,recognized organizations,shippingcompanies and other stakeholders,and encourage them to take action as appropriate.I:CIRCMEPC11738-Add-1.docPIRACY器=
