MSC 90/28/Add.1Annex 21,page 1ANNEX 21DRAFT RESOLUTION MSC.333(90)(adopted on 22 May 2012)ADOPTION OF REVISED PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FORSHIPBORNE VOYAGE DATA RECORDERS(VDRs)THE MARITIME SAFETY COMMITTEERECALLING Article 28(b)of the Convention on the International Maritime Organizationconcerning the functions of the Committee,RECALLING ALSO resolution A.886(21),by which the Assembly resolved that the function ofadopting performance standards and technical specifications,as well as amendmentsthereto shall be performed by the Maritime Safety Committee and/or the Marine EnvironmentProtection Committee,as appropriate,on behalf of the Organization,RECALLING FURTHER that,by resolution A.861(20),the Assembly,at its twentieth session,adopted Performance standards for shipborne voyage data recorders (VDRs),which wereamended by resolution MSC.214(81),adopted by the Committee,at its eighty-first session,RECOGNIZING the need to revise the performance standards for VDRs to assist ininvestig ations into casualties,HAVING CONSIDERED the recommendation by the Sub-Committee on Safety ofNavigation,at its fifty-seventh session,1ADOPTS the Revised Recommendation on perfomance standards for voyage datarecorders(VDRs),set out in the annex to the present resolution;2.RECOMMENDS Governments to ensure that VDRs:.1if installed on or after 1 July 2014,conform to performance standards notinferior to those specified in the annex to the present resolution;and2if installed before 1 July 2014,conform to performance standards notinferior to those specified in the annex to resolution A.861(20),as amendedby resolution MSC.214(81).I:MSC90128-Add-1.doc
