MSC 93/22/Add.3Annex 18,page 1ANNEX 18RESOLUTION MSC.379(93)(adopted on 16 May 2014)PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR SHIPBORNE BEIDOU SATELLITE NAVIGATIONSYSTEM(BDS)RECEIVER EQUIPMENTTHE MARITIME SAFETY COMMITTEERECALLING Article 28(b)of the Convention on the International Maritime Organizationconcerning the functions of the Committee,RECALLING ALSO resolution A.886(21),by which the Assembly resolved that the function ofadopting performance standards and technical specifications,as well as amendmentsthereto shall be perfomed by the Maritime Safety Committee and/or the Marine EnvironmentProtection Committee,as appropriate,on behalf of the Organization,RECALLING FURTHER that,in accordance with resolution A.1046(27),containing the IMOpolicy for the recognition and acceptance of suitable radionavigation systems intended forinternational use,the "Revised Report on the Study of a Worldwide RadionavigationSystem",the BDS satellite navigation system may be recognized as a possible component ofthe world-wide radionavigation system,NOTING that shipborne receiving equipment for the worldwide radionavigation systemshould be designed to satisfy the detailed requirements of the particular system concerned,RECOGNIZING the need to develop performance standards for shipborne BDS receiverequipment in order to ensure the operational reliability of such equipment and taking intoaccount the technological progress and experience gained,HAVING CONSIDERED the recommendation made by the Sub-Committee on Safety ofNavigation,at its fifty-ninth session,ADOPTS the perfomance standards for shipborne BDS receiver equipment,set outin the annex to the present resolution;2RECOMMENDS Govemments to ensure that BDS receiver equipment installed onor after 1 July 2016 conform to performance standards not inferior to those specified in theannex to the present resolution.I:MSC9322-Add-3.doc
