MSC105/20/Add.1Annex 18,page 1ANNEX 18RESOLUTION MSC.511(105)(adopted on 28 April 2022)PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR SHIPBORNE VHF RADIO INSTALLATIONSCAPABLE OF VOICE COMMUNICATION AND DIGITAL SELECTIVE CALLINGTHE MARITIME SAFETY COMMITTEE,RECALLING Article 28(b)of the Convention on the International Maritime Organizationconcerning the functions of the Committee,RECALLING ALSO resolution A.803(19),by which the Assembly,at its nineteenth session,adopted the Recommendation on Performance standards for shipbome VHF radio installationscapable of voice communication and digital selective calling,which was subsequentlyamended by resolution MSC.68(68),annex 1,RECALLING FURTHER resolution A.886(21),by which the Assembly resolved that thefunctions of adopting perfomance standards for radio and navigational equipment,as well asamendments thereto,shall be perfomed by the Maritime Safety Committee on behalf of theOrganization,TAKING INTO ACCOUNT the amendments to the International Convention for the Safety ofLife at Sea,1974("the Convention")adopted by resolution MSC.496(105),NOTING,in particular,regulations IV/7.1.1,7.1.2 and 8.2 of the Convention concerningradiocommunications for the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS),whichrequire ships to be provided with a VHF radio installation capable of voice communication anddigital selective calling,RECOGNIZING the need to revise the Performance standards for shipbome VHF radioinstallations capable of voice communication and digital selective calling to be used in theGMDSS in order to ensure the operational reliability of such equipment and to avoid,as far aspracticable,adverse interaction between such equipment and other communication andnavigation equipment on board ship,HAVING CONSIDERED,at its 105th session,the recommendation made by theSub-Committee on Navigation,Communications and Search and Rescue at its eighth session,1ADOPTS the revised Performance standards for shipborne VHF radio installationscapable of voice communication and digital selective calling,set out in the annex to the presentresolution;RECOMMENDS Govemments to ensure that shipbome VHF radio installationscapable of voice communication and digital selective calling which will fom part of the GMDSS:if installed on or after 1 January 2024,conform to performance standards notinferior to those specified in the annex to the present resolution;.2if installed on or after 23 November 1996 but before 1 January 2024,conformto performance standards not inferior to those specified in the annex toresolution A803(19),as amended,or confom to performance standards notinferior to those specified in the annex to this resolution;and.3if installed before 23 November 1996,conform to perfommance standards notinferior to those specified in the annex to resolution A.609(15).I:MSC105MSC 105-20-Add.1.docx
