MSC 107/20/Add.1Annex 24,page 1ANNEX 24RESOLUTION MSC.547(107)(adopted on 8 June 2023)AMENDMENTS TO THE CODE FOR THE CONSTRUCTIONAND EQUIPMENT OF MOBILE OFFSHORE DRILLING UNITS,2009(2009 MODU CODE)THE MARITIME SAFETY COMMITTEE,RECALLING Article 28(b)of the Convention on the International Maritime Organizationconcerning the functions of the Committee,NOTING that mobile offshore drilling units continue to be moved and operated internationally,RECALLING that the Assembly,when adopting the Code for the Construction and Equipmentof Mobile Offshore Drilling Units in 2009 by resolution A.1023(26),authorized the Committeeto amend the Code as appropriate,taking into consideration developments in design andtechnology,in consultation with appropriate organizations,RECALLING ALSO that,in accordance with regulation ll-1/3-5 of the International Conventionfor the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS),1974,new installation of materials which containasbestos is prohibited on all ships,which do not include MODUs,RECOGNIZING that regulation 2.10.3 of the 2009 MODU Code covers the prohibition ofmaterials containing asbestos that is applicable to new units at the time of construction,butdoes not cover new installation of materials on existing MODUs,HAVING CONSIDERED,at its 107th session,recommendations made by theSub-Committee on Ship Design and Construction,at its ninth session(23 to 27 January 2022),1ADOPTS amendments to the 2009 MODU Code the text of which is set out in theannex to the present resolution;2INVITES all Governments concerned to take appropriate steps to give effect to theannexed amendments to the 2009 MODU Code by 1 January 2024.I:MSC107MSC 107/20/Add.1.docx
