MSC108/20/Add.1Annex 10,page 1ANNEX 10RESOLUTION MSC.558(108)(adopted on 23 May 2024)AMENDMENTS TO THE PERFORMANCE STANDARD FOR PROTECTIVE COATINGSFOR CARGO OIL TANKS OF CRUDE OIL TANKERS(RESOLUTION MSC.288(87),AS AMENDED)THE MARITIME SAFETY COMMITTEE,RECALLING Article 28(b)of the Convention on the International Maritime Organizationconcerning the functions of the Committee,RECALLING ALSO resolution MSC.288(87),by which it adopted the Perfommance standardfor protective coatings for cargo oil tanks of crude oil tankers (the Performance standard"),which has become mandatory under chapter ll-1 of the International Convention for the Safetyof Life at Sea(SOLAS),1974("the Convention"),as amended by resolution MSC.342(91),RECALLING FURTHER article VIll(b)and regulation ll-1/3-11.3.1 of the Conventionconcerning the procedure for amending the Performance standard,RECOGNIZING the need to keep the Performance standard up to date with regard toreferences to other IMO instruments contained therein,HAVING CONSIDERED,at its 108th session,amendments to the Performance standard,proposed and circulated in accordance with VIll(b)(i)of the Convention,ADOPTS,in accordance with Article VIll(b)(iv)of the Convention,amendments to thePerfomance standard for protective coatings for cargo oil tanks of crude oil tankers,the textof which is set out in the annex to the present resolution;2DETERMINES,in accordance with article VIll(b)(vi)(2)(bb)of the Convention,that theamendments shall be deemed to have been accepted on 1 July 2025,unless,prior to thatdate,more than one third of the Contracting Governments to the Convention or ContractingGovernments the combined merchant fleets of which constitute not less than 50%of the grosstonnage of the world's merchant fleet have notified the Secretary-General of their objectionsto the amendments;3INVITES SOLAS Contracting Governments to note that,in accordance witharticle VIll(b)(vii)(2)of the Convention,the amendments shall enter into force on 1 January 2026upon their acceptance in accordance with paragraph 2 above;REQUESTS the Secretary-General,in conformity with Article VIll(b)(v)of theConvention,to transmit certified copies of the present resolution and the text of theamendments contained in the annex to all Contracting Governments to the Convention;ALSO REQUESTS the Secretary-General to transmit copies of this resolution and itsannex to Members of the Organization which are not Contracting Govemments to theConvention.I:MSC108MSC 108-20-Add.1.docx
