MEPC 78/17/Add.1Annex 12,page 1ANNEX 12RESOLUTION MEPC.350(78)(adopted on 10 June 2022)2022 GUIDELINES ON THE METHOD OF CALCULATION OF THE ATTAINED ENERGYEFFICIENCY EXISTING SHIP INDEX (EEXI)THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION COMMITTEE,RECALLING Article 38(a)of the Convention on the International Maritime Organizationconcerning the functions of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (the Committee)conferred upon it by international conventions for the prevention and control of marine pollutionfrom ships,NOTING that the Committee adopted,at its seventy-sixth session,by resolutionMEPC.328(76),the 2021 Revised MARPOL Annex VI,which will enter into force on1 November 2022,NOTING IN PARTICULAR that the 2021 Revised MARPOL Annex VI(MARPOL Annex V)contains amendments concerning mandatory goal-based technical and operational measuresto reduce carbon intensity of international shipping,NOTING FURTHER that regulation 23 of MARPOL Annex VI requires that the attained EnergyEfficiency Existing Ship Index(EEXI)shall be calculated taking into account the guidelinesdeveloped by the Organization,RECOGNIZING that the aforementioned amendments to MARPOL Annex VI require relevantguidelines for uniform and effective implementation of the regulations and to provide sufficientlead time for industry to prepare,NOTING that,at its seventy-sixth session,the Committee adopted,by resolutionMEPC.333(76),the 2021 Guidelines on the method of calculation of the attained EnergyEfficiency Existing Ship Index(EEXI),HAVING CONSIDERED,at its seventy-eighth session,the draft 2022 Guidelines on themethod of calculation of the attained Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index(EEXI),ADOPTS the 2022 Guidelines on the method of calculation of the attained EnergyEfficiency Existing Ship Index (EEX/),as set out in the annex to the present resolution;2INVITES Administrations to take the annexed Guidelines into account whendeveloping and enacting national laws which give force to and implement requirements setforth in regulation 23 of MARPOL Annex VI;3REQUESTS the Parties to MARPOL Annex VI and other Member Governments tobring the annexed Guidelines to the attention of masters,seafarers,shipowners,shipoperators and any other interested parties;4AGREES to keep the Guidelines under review in light of experience gained with theirimplementation,also taking into consideration that in accordance with regulation 25.3 ofI:MEPC78MEPC 78-17-Add.1.docx
