INTERNATIONALEMARITIMEORGANIZATION4 ALBERT EMBANKMENTLONDON SE1 7SRTelephone:+44(0)2077357611Fax:+44(0)2075873210MSC.1/Circ.1276/Rev.222 January 2025REVISED UNIFIED INTERPRETATIONS OF SOLAS CHAPTER II-21The Maritime Safety Committee,at its eighty-fourth session(7 to 16 May 2008),witha view to providing more specific guidance for application of the relevant requirements ofthe 1974 SOLAS Convention,approved the Unified interpretations of SOLAS chapter lI-2prepared by the Sub-Committee on Fire Protection,at its fifty-second session(14 to 18 January 2008).c3The Maritime Safety Committee,at its 107th session (31 May to 9 June 2023),approved Revised unified interpretations of SOLAS chapter ll-2 (MSC.1/Circ.1276/Rev.1),incorporating amendments to the unified interpretations of SOLAS regulations ll-2/9.7.2and 9.7.5 on separation of ducts from spaces,in order to align them with the requirements ofthe SOLAS Convention,as amended by resolution MSC.365(93),prepared by theSub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment,at its ninth session (27 February to3 March 2023).The Maritime Safety Committee,at its 109th session (2 to 6 December 2024),approved draft amendments to the revised unified interpretation ofSOLAS regulation ll-2/9.7.5.1 on separation of ducts from spaces in order to correct thereference to the regulation,prepared by the Sub-Committee on Ship Systems andEquipment,at its tenth session(4 to 8 March 2024),as set out in the annex.4Member Governments are invited to use the annexed revised unified interpretationsas guidance when applying relevant requirements of SOLAS chapter ll-2 to fire protectionconstruction,installation,arangements and equipment to be installed on board ships ofwhich the building contract is placed on or after 4 December 2024,and to bring the unifiedinterpretations to the attention of all parties concerned.5This circular supersedes MSC.1/Circ.1276/Rev.1.I:CIRCMSC1MSC.1-Circ.1276-Rev.2.docx
