CCSTechnical Information(2017)Technical Information No.34 Total No.282Jun.20,2017(Total 2 pages)To:Relevant departments of the Headquarters of CCS,the Society's surveyors,Plan ApprovalCenters,related shipowners,ship management companies,shipyards and designersNotice on implementation of MSC.1-Circ.1490-Rev.1I.BackgroundThe Maritime Safety Committee,at its ninety-seventh session (21 to 25 November2016),approved the circular "Revised unified interpretation of SOLAS regulation III/31.1.4(MSC.1/Circ.1490/Rev.1)".This circular provides guidance when applying SOLASregulation III/31.1.4 to the liferafts to be installed on board ships constructed on or after 21November 2014.II.Main ContentsThis circular provides specifications on the arrangement of lifejackets,immersion suits,emergency lighting,and embarkation ladder at the stowed area of the remotely locatedsurvival craft as required by SOLAS regulation III/3 1.1.4.This circular supersedes the previous revision "Unified Interpretation of SOLASRegulation III /31.1.4 (MSC.1/Circ.1490)".Compared to MSC.1/Circ.1490,this circular provides the specifications forself-contained battery powered lights that are to be used as an adequate means of illuminationfor the embarkation station and stowage location of remotely located survival craft.Self-contained battery-powered lamps (i.e.luminaires)may be accepted in this circular asmeans of illumination for complying with SOLAS regulation IIl/16.7.Such lamps should becapable of being recharged from the ship's main and emergency source of electrical power,and should be stowed close to the liferaft and embarkation ladder they are intended to serve,under charge.When disconnected from the ship's power,the lamp should give a minimum
