CCSTechnical Information(2018)Technical Information No.20 Total No.346Apr.10,2018(Total 2 pages)To:Relevant departments in CCS Headquarters,CCS surveyors,plan approval centers,relevantship owners,shipyards,product manufacturers and designersTechnical Information on Implementation of 2017 Guidelines forthe Implementation of MARPOL ANNEX V(MEPC.295(71))The Marine Environment Protection Committee under the International MaritimeOrganization (IMO)adopted,at its 71th session,the 2017 Guidelines for theImplementation of MARPOL ANNEX V by MEPC.295(71)(hereinafter referred toas the 2017 Guidelines)and revoked the 2012 Guidelines for the implementation ofMARPOL Annex V(resolution MEPC.219(63))(hereinafter referred to as the 2012Guidelines).The 2017 Guidelines were developed on the basis of the revision of the 2012Guidelines and the main revisions are as follows:1.Aligning the relevant provisions of the 2012 Guidelines with the relevantamendments to MARPOL Annex V,and relevant requirements of the InternationalCode for ships operating in polar waters (Polar Code),adopted by resolutionMEPC.264(68).The relevant amendments to MARPOL Annex V include:resolutionsMEPC.216(63),MEPC.246(66),MEPC.265(68)and MEPC.277(70).2.Incorporating the amendments in MEPC.239(65)to the 2012 Guidelines,adoptedby MEPC.219(63),to form the 2017 Guidelines(consolidated edition).Relevant parties are invited to take the 2017 Guidelines into account whenimplementing the provisions of MARPOL Annex V.This technical information is made public on CCS website (www.ccs.org.cn),and is tobe distributed to relevant ship owners,ship management companies,shipyards,product suppliers and designers by CCS branches within their responsible areas.Please contact Technical Management Department of CCS for any inquiry in theimplementation(rt@ccs.org.cn).
