CCSTechnical Information(2018)Technical Information No.11 Total No.337Mar.13,2018(Total 1 page Annex)To:Relevant departments of the Headquarters of CCS,the Society's surveyors,PlanApproval Centers,related shipowners,ship management companies,shipyards anddesignersTechnical Notice on Amendments to 1974 SOLAS ConventionMSC.421(98))Issued by IMO1、BackgroundThe Maritime Safety Committee of International Maritime Organization (IMO)approved the Amendments to the International Convention for the Safety of Life atSea,1974,as amended.Member States are invited to note that the amendmentsshall enter into force on 1 January 2020.2.Main revisionsThe Amendments amend the damage stability criteria of chapter ll-1,requirementsabout carriage of motor vehicle of chapter ll-2,requirements about life-savingappliances in chapter Ill,and requirements about certificates in Appendix.Amongthem,the damage stability criteria raise the requirement about subdivision index R.The influence of accumulated water of bulkhead deck is required to be considered inthe damage case of ro-ro passenger ship.The damage stability of intermediate stageis also required to be calculated for cargo ships fitted with cross-flooding devices.This Notice is made public on CCS website (www.ccs.org.cn),and is to be distributedto relevant ship owner and shipping management companies by CCS branches withintheir responsible areas.Please contact Technical Management Department of CCS forany inquiry in the implementation.E-mail address:rt@ccs.org.cn.Annex:MSC.421(98)
