CCSTechnical Information(2019)Technical Information No.16 Total No.410May.21,2019(Total 2 pages)To:relevant departments of CCS Headquarters,CCS plan approval centers,Branches/Offices,related shipyards,product manufacturers,ship designers,ship management companies andshipownersTechnical Notice on Issuance of 2018 Guidelines for the Dischargeof Exhaust Gas Recirculation(EGR)Bleed-Off Water(MEPC.307(73))by IMOThe Marine Environment Protection Committee of IMO adopted,at itsseventy-third session(MEPC73),2018 Guidelines for the Discharge of Exhaust GasRecirculation (EGR)Bleed-Off Water (MEPC.307(73)).The Guidelines should apply toa marine diesel engine fitted with an EGR device having a bleed-off water dischargearrangement,for which the ElAPP Certificate is first issued on or after 1 June 2019.EGR as one method for reducing NOx emissions may be used as Tier ll or Tier Illcompliance option,which is an internal engine process resulting in a NOx reduction.By means of this process,condensate of exhaust gas will be generated anddischarged as bleed-off water,which should be handled differently depending on thefuel oil sulphur content.The main contents of the guidelines are as follows:(1)Required documents which should be approved by the Administration orshould be retained on board the ship as appropriate and should be available forsurveys as required;(2)Requirements for the discharge of EGR bleed-off water into the seadepending on the fuel oil sulphur content;(3)Requirements for handling residues from EGR water treatment systems;(4)Requirements for the assessment of bleed-off water additives;
