INTERNATIONALEMARITIMEORGANIZATION4 ALBERT EMBANKMENTLONDON SE1 7SRTelephone:+44(0)2077357611Fax:+44(02075873210Ref.T5/1.01MEPC.1/Circ.74317 February 2011INFORMATION ON AN APPROVED METHOD UNDER MARPOL ANNEX VICommunication received from theAdministration of Germany1In accordance with the provisions of regulation 13.7.1 of MARPOL Annex VI,a communication has been received from the Administration of Germany concerningcertification of an approved method for marine diesel engines.The details are annexedhereto,and hereby circulated to Parties to MARPOL Annex VI and Member States of theOrganization for information and appropriate action.2It should be noted that,for marine diesel engines with a power output of morethan 5,000 kW and a per cylinder displacement at or above 90 litres installed on a shipconstructed on or after 1 January 1990 but prior to 1 January 2000,installation of anapproved method is required if the approved method for those engines have been certifiedby an Administration of a Party,or alternatively,for such engines,certification as provided forunder regulation 13.7.1.2 of MARPOL Annex VI.3As the Administration of Germany notified the Organization of the certification of anapproved method for engines specified in the annex to this circular on 4 February 2011,installation of the method for those engines will be mandatory no later than the first renewalsurvey for the ship's International Air Pollution Prevention Certificate,which occurs on orafter 5 February 2012,subject to commercial availability.4Member Governments are invited to bring this circular to the attention of theirAdministrations,relevant shipping organizations,recognized organizations,shippingcompanies and other stakeholders,and encourage them to take action as appropriate.★★I:CIRCMEPC11743.docPIRACY器=
