CCSTechnical Information(2017)Technical Information No.61 Total No.309Aug.15,2017(Total 2 pages)To:relevant departments of CCS Headquarters,CCS surveyors,plan approval centers,relevantship owners,shipyards and designersNotice on Interim Recommendations for Carriage of LiquefiedHydrogen in Bulk(Resolution MSC.420(97))Issued by IMOI BackgroundThe International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships CarryingLiquefied Gases in Bulk (IGC Code)currently does not specifically providerequirements for carriage of liquefied hydrogen in bulk by sea.In order to satisfy theneed of the industry for carriage of liquefied hydrogen in bulk,InternationalMaritime Organization (IMO)developed requirements for carriage of liquefiedhydrogen,and decided to adopt and release Interim Recommendations for Carriageof Liquefied Hydrogen in Bulk by resolution MSC.420(97)prior to Amendments to IGCCode for the inclusion of liquefied hydrogen.The Interim Recommendations may befurther improved based on the practical experience and feedback gained through theapplication of the Interim Recommendations.ll Main contents and matters needing attention1.Liquefied hydrogen is not listed in Chapter 19 of IGC Code,and it can only becarried with the establishment of a tripartite agreement according to paragraph1.1.6.1 of IGC Code.The Interim Recommendations may be treated as the basis oftripartite agreement of interim condition of carriage established by theAdministrations for gas carriers carrying only liquefied hydrogen in bulk.
