CCSTechnical Information(2015)Technical Information No.28 Total No.189July30,2015(Total 2 pages)To:relevant departments of CCS Headquarters,Research and Development Centre,Rules and Technology Centre,Wuhan Rules and Research Institute,plan approvalcenters,branches,CCS surveyors,relevant shipyards,product manufacturers,shipdesigners and ship management companiesNotice on the Resolution MSC.387(94)and MSC.1-Circ.1486 ofIMO MSC 94The 94th session of the Maritime Safety Committee of the International MaritimeOrganization (IMO MSC 94),which was held from 17 to 21 November 2014,adoptedresolution MSC.387(94)and circular MSC.1/Circ.1486.The main requirements aresummarized as follows:1.Resolution MSC.387(94)-Amendments to the Code for the Construction andEquipment of Mobile Offshore Drilling Units,2009(2009 MODU CODE)(A.1023(26)).The following requirement is newly added for mobile offshore drillingunits,the keels of which are laid or which are at a similar stage of construction on orafter 18 November 2014:Alternatively,the provisions regarding launching and manoeuvring may beconsidered as having been met for those units that have implemented the Guidelineson alternative methods for lifeboat drills on MODUs (MSC.1/Circ.1486)and they areincluded in the operating procedures,or by other equivalent means acceptable to theAdministration.2.MSC.1/Circ.1486 Guidelines on Alternative Methods for Lifeboat Drills onMODUsThis circular is made in harmony with resolution MSC.387(94),which providesalternative requirements for lifeboat drills on MODUs and requires where alternativemethods of achieving the objectives of three-monthly launch and manoeuvring oflifeboats are to be employed,they shall ensure achievement of a level of assurance of
