CCSTechnical Information(2020)Technical Information No.11 Total No.445Jan.20,2020(Total 4 pages)To:relevant ship designers,relevant departments of CCS Headquarters,Research andDevelopment Centre,Rules and Technology Centre,Wuhan Rules and Research Institute,planapproval centers,branches,CCS surveyorsNotice on Unified Interpretation of the International Code of Safetyfor Ships Using Gases or other Low-Flashpoint Fuels(IGF Code)(MSC.1/Circ.1605)1.BackgroundThe Maritime Safety Committee,at its 101st session(5 to 14 June 2019),approvedMSC.1/Circ.1605 as unified interpretations of the IGF Code.The circular aimed atproviding more specific guidance for the application of the relevant requirements ofthe IGF Code.Member States are invited by IMO to use the annexed unified interpretations asguidance when applying relevant provisions of the IGF Code and to bring them to theattention of all parties concerned.2.Technical key points2.1 Paragraph 6.3.10 of the IGF Code:Whether a drip tray is needed or not should be decidedin accordance with the place where the tank is located on.2.2 Sections 12.4 and 12.5 of the IGF Code:Section 12.4 should be interpreted as the guidingmethodology for the categorization of gas admission valves at dual fuel engines and gasengines.If no additional safety measures and no corresponding risk assessment in accordancewith section 12.4 are available,the examples in section 12.5 should apply.2.3 Section 12.5.2.1 and footnote 23 of the IGF Code:interpreting hazardous areaclassification of different fuel storage hold spaces.2.4 Section 15.10.1 of the IGF Code:interpreting acceptable means to confirm that theventilation system has the "required ventilating capacity"in operation.This technical information is published on the CCS website (www.ccs.org.cn)and will betransmitted to relevant units by the CCS branches implementing the inspection and plan
