Technical Information(2013)Technical Information No.69 Total No.103November 19.2013(Total Pages:2+1+144To:Related departments of CCS Headquarters,CCS Plan Approval Centers,CCSSurveyors,Shipyards,Product manufacturers,Ship Designers,Shipping Companies,Radio communication equipment service companiesNotice on the implementation of MSC.347(91)(Recommendation for the Protection of the AIS VHF Data Link)The IMO Maritime Safety Committee adopted the Resolution MSC.347(91)on theRecommendation for the Protection of the AIS VHF Data Link at its ninety-firstsession on 30 November 2012.The attached is the resolution.The main contents of the Recommendation as follows:1 any device which transmits on the radio channels allocated for AIS,shouldmeet the appropriate requirements of Recommendation ITU-R M.1371;2all such transmitting devices should be approved by the Administration;and3Administrations should take the steps necessary to ensure the integrity of theradio channels used for AlS in their waters.4revoke resolution MSC.140(76).Compared to the repealed Resolution MSC.140 (76)(Recommendation for theProtection of the AIS VHF Data Link,adopted on 5 December 2002),therequirements of the said resolution for the approval of equipment no longer limited toClass A and B AIS devices,but requires "any device which transmits on the radiochannels allocated for AIS"should "be approved by the Administration".The technical requirements of the said resolution may apply to any device equippedon the vessels sailing in any waters which transmits on the radio channels allocated
